Alasdair Harvey

For the past year Alasdair has been playing the Newspaper Editor Bruce Malcolm in The Bill. Before that he played Ewan Paterson in the BBC Scotland Soap River City. Other television credits include the Surgeon Barry Connors in Holby City, surgical registrar Dave Schofield in Casualty and the Christmas special of Birds of a Feather.

Alasdair has worked extensively in theatre both in the West End and Nationally. Over Christmas he performed in Stephen Sondheim’s Putting It Together in the Harrogate Theatre Studio. He played Wild Bill Hickok in the national tour of Calamity Jane and Bill Cracker in the critically acclaimed production of Happy End in fringe theatre in London. He played Sky Masterson at the Edinburgh Royal Lyceum Theatre in their production of Guys and Dolls, the Pirate King in the Pirates of Penzance at the Open Air Theatre Bromley and Alec D’Urberville in Tess of the D’Urbervilles at the Savoy Theatre London. Prior to that he was the original Beast in the Olivier Award winning production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Dominion Theatre. Alasdair can also be heard on the original London cast recording of Beauty and the Beast. He also appeared as the Beast in the Prince’s Trust Gala performance and for Children In Need 1998.

Before the Beast he played Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Raoul in the 10th Anniversary performance of The Phantom of the Opera, Grantaire in Les Miserablés at the Palace Theatre where he also played Marius and Enjorlas, and was also part of the Les Miserablés 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Alasdair trained at the Arts Educational School where he was a recipient of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship. He made his professional debut as the Sultan of Morocco in Dick Whittington in Redhill. Alasdair appeared as Charlie in the revival of Lionel Bart’s Blitz in Newcastle, the national tour of My Fair Lady and played Avrahm in Fiddler on the Roof for the West Yorkshire Playhouse. He was in the first national tour of Aspects of Love at the Prince of Wales Theatre, where he also played the leading role of Alex.

Other West End appearances include: Cliff in Sunset Boulevard, at the Adelphi Theatre and the Royal National Theatre’s production of Carousel at the Shaftesbury Theatre in which Alasdair understudied Billy Bigelow.

Alasdair is an established concert performer and has performed with many of the world’s finest Symphony Orchestras including the Hallé and the BBC Concert Orchestra, The Orchestra Of Scottish Opera and the Shenzhan Symphony Orchestra.

On radio he was featured in the BBC Radio 2 In Company With Sondheim series.
