Angela Rippon
Since her debut appearance on BBC television in September 1966, Angela Rippon has become one of the country’s most familiar and respected broadcast journalists on both radio and television.
Having started her career in the West Country where she worked for both the BBC and ITV as a reporter, producer and documentary director, she moved to BBC Television News in London and in 1976 became the nation’s first woman journalist news reader.
Her many programme credits include The Antiques Roadshow, Top Gear, In the Country, The General Election, The Wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Come Dancing, Masterteam, What’s My Line, Healthcheck, The Holiday Programme, Breakfast with Angela Rippon (LBC), Angela Rippon’s Drivetime (LBC), Friday Night is Music Night (BBC Radio 2).
She has worked for CBS on Boston, and Channel 10 in Australia, and won numerous, prestigious awards for her work on radio and television, both here and in America. These include an Emmy, a Sony Award, three New York Radio and Television Festival Silver Medals, and four TRIC awards, plus a place in the Hall of Fame of the Royal Television Society.
She is currently Chairman of the Board of English National Ballet, and Vice-President of the British Red Cross.
